Two questions, answered from the record: the company's public footprint.
Checked facts: 31 years online, street address on the site — as of Oct 1, 2026. These are facts the registry could check, not an endorsement.
The registry records Sotheby's New York at 945 Madison Ave, New York, NY — the address on the company's public footprint. Shipping terms are agreed with the supplier; Closo does not quote them here.
Every supplier is scored from 0 to 100 on facts we can check ourselves — not on what the company says about itself. The same checks run for everyone, the method is published in full, and no supplier can pay to change a score.
Google Maps lists it as: Art gallery, Jewelry appraiser.

For such a big name in auctions, with beautiful art entrusted to it, it's a shame their website is so broken. Hundreds of items for sale don't come up in the search as they should, the "bid" buttons on webpages regularly disappear meaning users are prevented from bidding, auction closing dates are not displayed and are thus a mystery to guess (the same goes for auction base locations) and when viewing all the lots in an auction it will say "auction opens in 4 days" but when viewing each individual piece in the same auction it will say "auction closes in 2 days" so you have no idea what the tru
After seeing their site for free valuations I spent an hour taking photos and filling out forms. They didn't give me a valuation on any of my items presumably because they didn't want to sell them. Waste of my time.
After seeing their ads inviting you to sell with them I decided to give it a shot and spent 40 minutes to fill out the form.
The result was instant rejection under the pretense that “it’s hard to determine the value based on photos” even though I have a verbal description with carat weight, color, etc and explained I had a GIA report.
I think people working there are overwhelmed with too many submissions and give you some nonsense to sound professional.
They are not good. They put a scribble for a million but if u hold a golden egg, they turn up their noses. Pride is blind. Its a club...
I had high expectations, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing. Communication was slow and unclear, and the overall process took much longer than expected. I did not feel well informed during the transaction, which made the experience unnecessarily stressful.
I got better offer with Fashionphile vs auction. Also took more than a month to release the funds. Big mistake and never again.
