Don't do business with this company. I checked their list of brands and sent in very good or new items. Out of 20 items they didn't accept 10. The ones they did accept, the majority of those had a $1.64 each return IF they sold without any deductions. They didn't give me an option to have anything returned. Apparently you need a premium clear out service for that. They really have no regard for their customers and seem to go out of their way to make sure they get all the profits while you end up with basically nothing.

I have sent several bags to threadup. In one bag I had an Armani dress, that was in very good condition. When my bag was listed, the dress was not there. I just shrugged it off at the time. I recently sent a new bag. I had a brand new Kate Spade sweater, it was not listed. I contacted the company and they just said it didn’t meet their standards. It was brand new. Once was a fluke, second time it’s scam.

I like thread up a lot. It is great to have a source of secondhand clothing. I can pick out by the item when I need it. I wasn’t impressed at all about Selling via thread up. So I don’t recommend that part. However, I am a GLP one patient and dropped several sizes. Over the course of the year or two as I dropped a size I would order several pairs of pants or shorts in the new size from thread up. That service was incredibly helpful for me.

I used to LOVE Thredup and recommended to all my friends. I’ve been ordering for years with no issues. Within the last few months, they have started limiting the pictures of items, only showing 2 pics for shoes, where before you got every possible angle. Last few orders I have received ‘Excellent Condition/no sign of wear’ items (Lulu) that wreak of VERY poor hygiene-urine and body odor. There is NO WAY the person accepting the items and the person packing the box could not smell them. Not only disgusting, but very unhygienic….and misrepresented. Buy at your own risk, unless it’s NWT.

People constantly hoard items in carts, moving them around, making it so no one can buy anything. There are bots, and the feature that is supposed to prevent this from happening, BUY FOR ME, doesn't work. On top of that, when you talk to customer service, their response is "sucks for you." Do not use.

Terrible customer service. Their website is not clear on the process with sending in your bags. I mailed six very full bags of clothing and shoes back in December. This is March 25 and after texting them they’ve lost my bags. How can this company lose six very large bags of items. Very apologetic they’re offering me $35 a bag for compensation. I do not recommend this company very disappointed.👎

If you’re thinking about selling with ThredUp, be very careful. They disqualified multiple branded items I sent and then asked me to pay to have them returned—otherwise they would “recycle” them. That already felt like a trap.
What’s worse, they only accepted the cheapest item in my bag, and I never received any payout for it. So in the end, I lost valuable items and made nothing.
This process feels misleading and unfair to sellers. I would strongly recommend avoiding ThredUp if you care about your items or your time.

Extremely high shipping costs..Had trouble when I didnt get what I ordered due to wrong shipping location..cancelled the order after 6 attempts..finally got my money back

Expect to earn pennies on the dollar. Super non transparent pricing policies. Exorbitant fees. Do not sell with them

Robin L Bruno Oct 8, 2025

I’ve always liked ThredUP’s idea of giving quality clothes a second life, but the payout system is very disappointing. I sent in several excellent-condition, name-brand items and ended up earning almost nothing after all the fees and deductions.

The process is convenient, but the compensation doesn’t come close to being fair. At this point, I’d rather donate my clothes to Goodwill, where I know they’ll help others directly instead of being resold for profit with virtually no return to the sender.

Customer service not so good to my opinion. They tend to be fast and close conversations quickly without solving problems.
Customer service should be better and more effective

Lori O'Neill Jun 30, 2025

Lack of payout and misleading photos. I have used ThredUp to sell clothes, but my experience has been disappointing. I sent in quality items for resale and never received any payout or clear communication about what happened to them. It’s hard to track what’s sold or how much you actually earn. I’ve also noticed that some of the clothing listed on the site doesn’t accurately show flaws or wear. Photos can make items appear in better condition than they really are, which is frustrating for buyers and sellers alike.

Ashlynne Simien May 4, 2025

I deeply regret not reading the reviews before sending my clothes to ThredUp. I’ve now sent in three Clean Out Kits containing a total of 22 items, the majority of which were brand new, never worn, and still had tags. The rest were freshly washed, gently used, and in great condition—clearly eligible based on ThredUp’s own list of accepted brands and condition guidelines.

I used the Standard Clean Out Kit, as my items didn’t qualify for the Premium kit. That meant ThredUp would deduct $14.99 per kit, however, $17.98 is being deducted from each bag. Their suggested earnings estimate was at least $100 total for what I sent, but here's what actually happened:

Kit #1: Contained 8 pairs of jeans. ThredUp accepted and listed only 2. The other 6 seemingly vanished. The estimated payout? $7.64 — which doesn’t even cover the $17.98 in fees, meaning I earn $0.

Kit #2: Sent 5 items, 2 were accepted and sold. After fees, I’m left with $9.21.

Kit #3: Sent 9 items, 5 sold. Final payout? $2.51.

That's a total payout of just $11.72 for 22 items, more than half of which were brand new with tags.

No, I didn’t expect to earn what I paid for the items, but this result is beyond disappointing. It

The most pleasant experience with a website I ever had. Order a wool winter coat pea coat. Perfect condition. 30.00. Had discount coming so great deal. Arrive on time. Tracking great. Packed beautiful. Clean. Very happy.

Christine Fulgieri Jul 19, 2024

The payout vs. the value of the clothing you send is outrageous. I would have earned more selling the clothes locally for recycled fabric. Ie. Athleta swim top: they priced at $24- my payout =$2 j.crew swim top $22- my payout $2- I sent easily $500 worth of clothing and earned $0, because they charged for the shipping and the sales didn’t cover it. This happened x3 bags worth of clothing. I’d rather just donate to big brother big sister.

Threadup is the gamestop equivalent of Goodwill. They will take your clothes in exchange for cash except they low ball like crazy and only except name brand clothing. Thing is, they will take your rejected clothing and still sell it as a profit.

I knew that because everyone on YouTube was recommending this site as a sponsor, it would be yet another scam. I eventually looked at the website for shoes in hoping it would be as good as Poshmark, maybe I was a little harsh? No, their sneakers were so dirty and worn down yet wanting $30+ for a pair! I got a new pair for the same price on Poshmark instead.

Their other clothes and accessories look okay but I can't believe how much they are price hiking used clothing! I also live close to a discount clothing store and I never seen prices for the same clothing be this high! They are taking advantage of recycling and poorer people just like Goodwill does. Do not buy from there! There are other places where you can find better options for cheaper and it directly goes into someone's hands than the corporation.

For the most part, this is my favorite website for selling used, excellent condition clothing that I do not mind being donated (or prepay to have whatever they do not choose to post for resell, returned to you).
I made this newbie error of sending designer clothing, many never worn, some with tags, all met the qualifications+ and the majority were much nicer than what they did have posted!?! (They do accept and want the higher-end designer clothing, but I send those elsewhere.)
They stated that they do not document the inventory received, and donate whatever they do not post. So pay the return fee upfront if you want your items back!
However, Super Positive is that they do all of the legwork themselves including great photos, descriptions, and shipping of your items. Also, once your product posts, you have a window to make changes, including the price that they set and description. Your item does have to sell within a set timeframe, and if it does not, you are given 7 days to pay for the item to be returned to you; otherwise it is donated. (They send you an email, so no need to watch your calendar.)
Now, this is my go-to for good, mid to lower end designer clothing that I no longe

I have been shopping with Threadup since 2020. I have ordered lots and lots of clothing. Some were not as good as described but I never said anything thinking I would just wear the clothing that was misrepresented around the house. I have bought 8 purses. 90% of those purses were Coach. I am not including the many Coach wallets mI bought. My last order was made on July 11, 2023. They sent me a Coach knockoff. I am furious. The purse is literally falling apart. I told Threadup about the knockoff they sent me and after all the business I gave them and NEVER complained when I could have, I feel disrespected. They sent me an email stating they have a " team if experts" that thoroughly review items for authenticity. Well the experts do not have a clue about authenticity since they let a knockoff go through. Beware of this company because it's not always what you see is what you get.

I had heard of this company and remember in the past it had a good reputation. Not so anymore. I decided to purchase an Adrianna Papell dress. However, a few minutes after placing my order I felt uneasy and wish I had read all the horrible reviews posted on Sitejabber first, then I would never have gotten entangled with battling this 'company' in the first place. In the first place, there is NO customer service number to call when I decided to cancel my order ten minutes later. There are 'chat' assistants who keep repeating the same information: my order could not be cancelled because it had already been shipped. Really in ten minutes? That is illogical and impossible. I ended that chat and began another chat, explaining I wished to cancel my order but instead was given the same story that my order had already been shipped. I asked for a tracking number. I was provided with a tracking number which not surprisingly is a fake one because the item is listed as "tracking information will be updated as soon as item ships." That was ten days ago. There is no hope of a return because their return policy is such that the shipping PLUS the restocking fee is almost the price I paid for the d

I recent sold handbags on their site and should have been paid out once the buyer received the item, this was back in April on the 21st and now we’re in May and I still haven’t received my payout, every time I chat with customer support, they’re saying you have to wait 14 in case the buyer wants to return, then I reminded them that I sold handbags which is a final sale that can’t be returned, they replied by saying you still have to wait 14 days, why I don’t know and they don’t no either! This place is a joke and I won’t be sending anymore clothes or handbags to them! Please stay far away from this place!!!

Linda Jordan-Parker Jun 21, 2022

They sent me a "comeback" coupon that didn't work. When I finally contacted the so called customer service via "chat" they were useless.
It's a scam to get people back to the site. I wasted time looking and then tracking down customer service. No phone availability.
Truly an awful experience

I ordered clothes and what I received was not what was described. Aside from most items being mis sized, the denim jacket was tattered and full of holes. It's Non-returnable and so I'm unable to return it. I'm left with a useless rag.
The other clothing fit poorly and I am being charged a $2 restocking fee per item. In addition, I opted to pay for shipping so that I'd get everything refunded to my credit card since do not want store credit.

Marie McGinnis Feb 18, 2022

Awful experience! I ordered 3 pair of shoes, two did not fit, one was defective. I returned them the next day and was charged $2 each as a "restocking fee". I never got a refund so I checked the site. I was issued a store credit, not a refund. When I contacted support, after MUCH searching and run around to do so, I was told "I see that your return was refunded as thredUP credits because whoever created the return, selected thredUP credits as the preferred refund method." So, they decided but they will do me the "FAVOR" of an exception, however, I have to wait for an email from them to proceed since they are saying that I chose a refund, even though they just said that they did... This has been over a week ago so I went through the process of contacting them again and was told that I had to keep waiting to hear from them. Oh, and I wont be refunded for shipping, that will be deducted, so its cost me around $15 to try on some shoes, one defective pair. Im sure they will be relisting the defective pair as well so as to sell to another sucker, assuming I ever do get the email.
UPDATE: I mailed them back on the 9th. Its now the 18th and they say they have not received them. They are VE

This company asks you to donate your used clothes so that they could price it at retail value and give you a small percentage of it. Not right and not fair at all. Either sell the clothes at a price of a thrift store or don't sell at all. Pricing a pair of used sweatpants for the same price as brand new ones at Walmart is just disgraceful. Get a purpose people, this way or repurposing does not work.

Nicole Gibson Aug 21, 2021

Buying clothes online is hit and miss at best. I shopped at both ThreadUp.com and Poshmark.com this month but am not thrilled with either. Buying clothes from Poshmark.com is like shopping in the untamed Wild West, you're on your own. There is no support and no one is letting on how to navigate the site without injury.
I found and made an offer for a pair of used A&E jeans listed for $25 and agreed to $20. I had never shopped at Poshmark, but was enticed by an email promising $10 off my first order. Promo code in hand, I was excited to get what should've been a pair of $10 jeans. Sadly, at checkout there was nowhere to enter the code. I ended up paying $29 for those used jeans which, btw, sell for $29 new at American Eagle Outfitters. When I tried to get help with the issue I was met with radio silence.

ThreadUp.com was mentioned by another reviewer who was also fed up with Poshmark. What an experience! I created an account and was sent a 50% off code for first time buyers. I bought 4 pairs of designer jeans, 4 high-end blouses, and 2 pairs of boots for $134! And $12 of that was sales tax. Free shipping. I cleared out space in my closet and with little else to do, waited for my n

Wow! Very impressed with this site. It's very similar to The RealReal, but has a bit better prices when you wait for sales on your favorite items, and also has returns on all items. The Real Real, on other hand, only accepts returns on sales 30% or less. Plus I've ordered more things that actually fit me at this site than any other site.

C Dickson Mar 9, 2021

In my experience, I sent them a big bag of clothes and shoes and I made over $50 which I was happy with. You get a better payout if you choose for example Atheltta store credit as opposed to just cash. I could have made more selling my clothes somewhere else but it also would have been a lot more work for me and I would have had to pay shipping on every item if I had sold them on my own. Happy to get money for less effort then driving to Goodwill.

Jenny Marsh Oct 6, 2020

Have personally been selling with the platform for over a year and never once had an issue reported. I know it’s common practice to only leave a bad review much more than a good one but I can’t relate to these in any way.

Im into vintage fashion and for some reason only here I can find piece which I can combine with original vintage clothing so that one couldn't tell it's modern piece. THX
